Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star makes Rodri and Man City prediction

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona defensive-midfielder Luis Milla predicts that Rodri will 'fit perfectly' into Manchester City's midfield.

Reports in Spain suggest that Rodri has told his club, Atletico Madrid, that he wants to leave the Spanish capital this summer and a move to City looks soon to be completed.

Bayern Munich and PSG were also very interested in the 22-year-old, but it's reported that the prospect of working under Pep Guardiola has swinged his decision.

City are in need of a new defensive midfielder in order to provide cover, competition and be the eventual successor to the ageing Fernandinho, who has now turned 34 and whose injuries began mounting up last season.

The Blues were also interested in Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele and Marcos Llorente of Real Madrid, but it appears that they have secured their number one target in Rodri, though a deal is yet to be completed.

Milla believes that Rodri has the right attributes to fit right in at the Etihad.

"Rodri would fit perfectly at Manchester City, because his coach has an Ajax and Barcelona style and looks for the same idea of play," the three-time La Liga winner told Omnisport.

"City has a coach that was influenced at Barcelona. Rodri has the ability and virtues to play that way.

"We are talking about a player with the ability to read football quickly," Milla continued.

"He also understands what he has to do in each moment, he is intelligent, tactically he never loses his position, and he knows how to play a positional game."

Rodri is set to cost City a £62.5million transfer fee in order to trigger his release clause.
