Former Ayr United starlet poised to join non-league cracks

Irvine Meadow are closing in on a deal for former Ayr United starlet Nathan Baird.

Co-bosses Colin Spence and James Latta spent last week running the rule over the 21-year-old defender in training and named him as a trialist substitute against Hurlford.

Baird has been without a club since leaving the Honest Men in the summer.

He spent last season on loan at Cumnock where he won player of the year.

Spence said: “He’s come in and done really well. We think he can offer us something different and we’re hopeful of sorting something out this week.”

Baird also enjoyed a spell at Maybole under Carlo Walker.
