Former Ayr and Stranraer star quits East Kilbride

East Kilbride have announced the departure on former club captain Craig Malcolm.

Former Ayr and Stranraer striker 'Malky' spent four years at K-Park and helped the club lift the Lowland League title in 2019.

He joined the club on loan from Alloa when Billy Stark brought him to the club in January 2018 and signed a permanent deal the following season, hoping to guide his hometown team to the SPFL.

He was handed the captaincy by Brian Kerr in 2018 in place of Barry Russell, but that honour ended when Stevie Aitken took the reins in May 2020.

He fell out of favour under Aitken and has rarely featured this term for the club, now managed by Stevie Aitken's brother Chris, and he departs with Kilby sitting fifth in the Lowland League and 14 points off runaway leaders Bonnyrigg Rose.

A statement from East Kilbride read: "We can now announce that Craig Malcolm has left the club.

"Craig has been an incredible servant for Kilby since joining the club in January 2018.

"‘Malky’ captained the club to our 2nd League Title in 2019 and has contributed so many important goals at K-Park."

He is the latest high profile exit from the club, following Gregg Wylde's departure for Dumbarton and Chris Erskine announcing he is taking a break from football to pursue a new career in the fire service.
