Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott gets last laugh on road-rage driver while cycling

An Australia motorist reportedly found themselves venting their ire at the wrong target when they unwittingly crossed former prime minister Tony Abbott.

Bystanders said the woman, who was driving near Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra on Wednesday morning, blasted the horn of her red Hyundai at a group of cyclists in a heated while dangerously weaving between the group of riders.

“She lent on the horn and kept it on while weaving between cyclists and crossing yellow lines,” an eyewitness told the Canberra Times.

But the angry motorist soon found herself talking to Australian federal police after it was revealed Mr Abbott was among the group.

The eyewitness, a cyclist in a smaller group, said a member of the party flagged down a police car that was acting as a security detail.

“She picked the wrong time, wrong place and definitely the wrong person," the eyewitness said.

Mr Abbott was said to be among a "disciplined group of cyclists" which had not done anything to warrant the road rage.

The driver in question was reportedly last seen in the car park of the nearby Hyatt Hotel, in deep discussion with a police officer.
