Former Atletico Madrid youngster Stefan Colovic poised to join Dundalk

Serbian midfielder Stefan Colovic is poised to join champions Dundalk.

The move for the 25-year-old remains subject to work permit and visa requirements as well as international clearance.

As a youngster, Colovic was at Atletico Madrid and Red Star Belgrade's academies.

Since 2017, he has been at Serbian SuperLiga side Proleter Novi Sad.

If the deal goes through as expected, he will be Vinny Perth’s fifth close season signing after Will Patching, Greg Sloggett, Darragh Leahy and Cammy Smith.

And Perth will hope that his new charges can steer the Lilywhites to a third Airtricity League crown on the bounce, with a triumph in 2020 making it six in just seven years.

But Shamrock Rovers are poised to provide stiff opposition, with the Hoops drawing last blood in 2019 by denying Dundalk an historic treble and recruiting well over the winter in preparation for a title tilt.
