Former Aston Villa star makes bold claim over Jack Grealish's future amid Man City interest

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Manchester City could be priced out of a move for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Pep Guardiola's side have been heavily linked with Grealish, as well as Tottenham striker Harry Kane so far during the summer transfer window.

Unlike Kane, Grealish has not expressed any interest in public about wanting to leave his boyhood club, though the lure of Champions League football and competing for top honours is great.

It would likely cost City a gargantuan £100million to sign the 25-year-old, though Villa remain adamant they don't want to lose their star player.

Agbonlahor, who is Villa's record Premier League goalscorer, played with Grealish in the final years of his career before his retirement in 2019.

The 34-year-old has confidently expressed his belief that the Villa and England playmaker will stay at Villa Park for the time being at least.

“There’s always going to be interest in a top player like Jack,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider

"He’s gone to the Euros, he’s done well when he was given a chance. So there’s always going to be clubs interested.

“But I’ve always said that Aston Villa are not in need of £100million, the owners are very rich. They could price Jack out of a move.

“I think Manchester City would love to sign him but they probably need a striker as their number one target. They might end up using their money to get a striker rather than spend over £100million to get Jack.

“He’s an amazing player and Villa have done amazingly to tie him down to a long-term deal last summer. I think he will stay and fans will love it.”
