Former assistant reveals why Pep Guardiola can achieve the impossible at Man City

Manchester City went against recent history when they became the first team in a decade to retain the league title.

Pep Guardiola has emphatically put a difficult first season in English football behind him over the last two years, amassing the two biggest points tallies in the history of the Premier League to shut down any doubts that he would be able to have success with his football.

Liverpool and Tottenham are expected to challenge City's supremacy next season, with Jurgen Klopp's side having come agonisingly short in May to ending their league title drought. The Blues saw their winning distance almost completely cut for their second triumph, and Sir Alex Ferguson's United are the only side to have ever won three consecutive league titles.

However, Guardiola's former No.2 Domenec Torrent - now in charge at New York City FC - believes that the manager's attitude will make it possible for City to defy even greater odds.

"You know how difficult it is to win two in a row, so people may say it's almost impossible to win the next Premier League," he told The Sun .

"But if it's possible for one person to keep that energy, rhythm and focus and keep working in the same way, then it's Pep.

"Remember in Barcelona he was able to keep the focus in every single game and he kept on winning.

"It doesn't matter for him if he is playing Championship or playing Liverpool in a top of the league game. For Pep, it's the same. Pep conveys all the time to the players how important it is in every single game like they are playing Barcelona, Real Madrid or Liverpool in the Champions League."
