Former Arsenal youngster names the one player he did not like from his time with the Gunners

In football clubs, like in any other place of work, there are always likely to be team-mates who don't get on with each other.

There have been cases of this on the pitch and training ground bust-ups over the years, from Newcastle duo Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer infamously clashing at St James' Park to John Hartson kicking West Ham team-mate Eyal Berkovic in the face during training.

There may not have been incidents quite like that at Arsenal, but there have been players who haven't seen eye to eye.

And former Arsenal youngster Jay Bothroyd has admitted that there was one first-team player he didn't get on with during his time as an up-and-coming teenager in the ranks in north London.

The latest on possible Arsene Wenger statue and stand

Speaking in an interview with Wales Online, Bothroyd has explained how he used to train regularly with the first team, and spoken positively of the welcome he received from Arsenal legends such as Tony Adams, David Seaman, Lee Dixon and Martin Keown.

But it was a different story with another member of Arsenal's famous back line in the 1990s. Indeed, Bothroyd said the only player he didn't take to was Nigel Winterburn.

"He was a dry character," he said.

"Old fashioned, didn't really like him."

It did not work out for Bothroyd at Arsenal though, as he was sold to Coventry City for £1million as an 18-year-old in 2000, having not made an appearance for the Gunners' first team.

Bothroyd then went on to play for several different clubs in England and abroad, including Perugia, Wolves, Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers.

The 37-year-old, who also has one cap for England, is currently in Japan with J1 League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo.
