Former Arsenal striker urges Edu to complete £36m transfer for Alexandre Lacazette replacement

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has given a glowing recommendation of reported transfer target Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Gunners have been linked to En-Nesyri in recent weeks, with some reports from Spain claiming that the north London club are targeting the Sevilla frontman as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who has less than a year left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to give anything away when asked about the Frenchman's future last month, stating that anything can happen between now and the end of the season.

"We discuss that internally, we discuss that with him," Arteta said. "It’s a long season ahead of us anything can happen everything is open. He just needs to focus on performing and contributing to the team like he always does.

"He’s a phenomenal character, he’s somebody that’s always pushing and he has a real interest to help the team. That’s not going to change. After we will see what happens."

Given Lacazette will likely leave north London in the coming months, former Gunner Campbell has discussed who he thinks should replace the former Lyon frontman and the Englishman was quick to laud En-Nesyri.

Campbell told the Highbury Squad podcast: "Good player, really good. For me, he would definitely come in and carry a threat.

"I will tell you that much. He will carry a threat [at the] top end of the pitch. He has good size, speed, knows where the goal is, he is skilful too."

The Moroccan centre-forward, who is valued at £36million on Transfermarkt, enjoyed a productive 2020/21 campaign with Sevilla, netting 18 goals in La Liga across 36 fixtures.

He was also prolific in Europe, finding the back of the net on six occasions in the UEFA Champions League last term, a hugely impressive return considering he played just eight matches.
