Former Arsenal striker makes Thomas Partey claim after his first season in the Premier League

Thomas Partey has endured a largely frustrating first season in English football.

Plenty of Arsenal fans were ecstatic after the Ghanaian joined Arsenal in a sensational £45 million deadline day deal last October, having been linked with a number of other clubs.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder joined Arsenal with a huge reputation and Partey was expected to hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium.

However, the 27-year-old has suffered from a number of injuries and has struggled to stay fit during his debut campaign in north London, making 32 appearances in total in all competitions for the Gunners.

And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has attributed the physicality of the English top-flight as the main cause of his fitness problems.

Campbell told the Highbury Squad: “Thomas Partey never had injuries. He has had three or four injuries since he has been at Arsenal.

“I think right up until now we have still been kind of nurturing him, trying to make sure he gets through games.

“Again, Spanish football and England football totally different. The game is the same, but the physicality is different.

"So he has to get up to speed on that physicality.”

Partey, who started just 17 Premier League games all season, will be hoping a full pre-season with Mikel Arteta's side will go a long way to helping him recapture the form he showed during his time in Spain's capital.
