Former Arsenal striker highlights what Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did wrong in dramatic late miss

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has reacted to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's late miss during the Gunners' loss at home to Olympiacos in the Europa League.

Aubameyang had scored a wonderful goal earlier in the last 32 second-leg tie but when called upon in the final moments, the star striker somehow sent the ball wide from six yards out.

Arsenal had let a 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg slip and trailed in the final moments of extra time thanks to Youssef El-Arabi's strike.

But Aubameyang had a chance to save the Gunners and send Mikel Arteta's men through to the last 16, only to shoot wide.

Hartson was on punditry duties for the clash on BT Sport and shared his thoughts on the incident post-match.

"I think we all thought it was going in. Everyone in the ground did. If you would have wanted it to fall to anyone it would have been Aubameyang," Hartson told BT Sport.

"He had scored a wonder goal but on this one he has just snatched at it and rushed it. He's normally so calm. He has time there to slow it down. But he just snatched at it and he cannot believe he's missed it."

Arsenal legend Martin Keown added: "It would have been the perfect way to win it but they didn't. It really hurts the football fans. The supporters have really shown their anger. There will be quite a fallout from this."
