Former Arsenal star makes surprise return during Dubai training session

Arsenal are halfway through their four-day warm weather training camp in Dubai.

The Gunners have had a tough schedule this season, so the first ever Premier League winter break comes at a fantastic time for Mikel Arteta's side as they can recharge their batteries.

It's allowed injured players to step up their recoveries and for new signings to gel with the squad.

What Arsenal need to do during the winter break

Day one saw Pablo Mari train alongside the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Emiliano Martinez for the first time since joining the north London outfit on loan from Flamengo for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, fellow loan signing Cedric Soares has also made the trip to Dubai. Although he took part in a light training session as he works his way back from a knee injury.

Furthermore, Reiss Nelson - who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury - was involved in a full training session.

One day two there was a familiar face during training.

Manuel Alumina, who made over 100 appearances for the Gunners across an eight-year spell from 2004 to 2012 - was on hand in Dubai to catch up with former teammate Freddie Ljungberg as seen in the images below.

The Spaniard also shared words with compatriots Mikel Arteta, Hector Bellerin and Dani Ceballos.

Almunia's former no.1 shirt is now in possession of Bernd Leno as he took it over from Petr Cech after he retired last summer and the German is keen to win a trophy this season.

"Maybe this process takes time but we have to win games," the Gunners' goalkeeper said. "In the Europa League and FA Cup we have so many difficult games, so many big games because we saw last season that in the Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals you get Champions League teams.

"They are all playing for the title and the final was Arsenal against Chelsea [last season], so it was a very, very big game.

"We want to have this final again and also in the FA Cup. Everybody told me that the FA Cup final at Wembley is unbelievable with the atmosphere and it is also a trophy, a title and we are looking forward to playing these games.

"Hopefully we can win a title this season."
