Former Arsenal star José Antonio Reyes killed in car crash

Former Arsenal star José Antonio Reyes has been killed in a car crash, it has been confirmed.

A statement released by the Spaniard's former club Sevilla confirmed the tragic news on Saturday.

The statement read: "We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace."

Reyes started his career with Sevilla and enjoyed a glittering career, playing for the likes of Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Benfica.

He was on on the books of Spanish Segunda Division side Extremadura at the time of his shock death.

He scored four times in 21 appearances for Spain.

Reyes was part of Arsenal's Invincibles side that won the 2003/04 Premier League title without losing a single game.

His former Arsenal team mate Thierry Henry is among those to pay tribute to the ex-Spain international.

"I’m devastated to hear the sad news about José Antonio Reyes," the Frenchman wrote on his official Twitter account.

"Wonderful player, superb team mate and exceptional human being.

"I wish his family and friends continued strength and courage to get through this difficult time."
