Emmanuel Frimpong has said that Unai Emery must finish in the top four if he's to be deemed a success.
The Arsenal boss narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last term after finishing fifth in the Premier League - just one point behind north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
While Emery did guide the team to the Europa League final, the Gunners were comfortably beaten by Chelsea in Baku, condemning them to another season in Europe's second competition.
Speaking to MetaRatings , Frimpong cast doubt over the motivation of the Arsenal players and said that qualifying for the Champions League is a must this time around.
He said: "I don’t know if Emery is or isn’t the right man to take Arsenal forward.
"All I know is that Arsenal players need someone to really motivate them because you can see at Liverpool, every game they are always motivated, they press every team.
"With Arsenal I feel like players are too comfortable. They have bad games and they are still selected.
"I think that he needs top four; we need to get into the Champions League this year. If we get into the Champions League this year, I think he has done well."
