Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista left covered in blood after head clash

A clash of heads left Gabriel Paulista covered in blood during Valencia’s victory against Getafe in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-final.

The former Arsenal centre-back clashed heads with his teammate Ezequiel Garay causing blood to gush from above the Brazilian’s right eye.

The 28-year-old continued nonetheless as Valencia went on to claim a frantic victory, with Rodrigo completing his hat-trick in stoppage time before Mouctar Diakhaby was sent off.

Afterwards, Paulista posted to social media and wrote: “You have to die on the pitch,” as he was getting the cut stitched.

Valencia won the match 3-1 meaning they progress to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate, where they will meet one of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Real Betis, Sevilla or Espanyol.

Paulista left Arsenal in 2017, where he made 26 appearances and won two FA Cups, before signing a five-year deal with Valencia.
