Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery plots Tottenham raid with 'advanced talks' over defender

Tottenham are in 'advanced talks' with Villarreal over the loan of defender Juan Foyth.

According to AS, a deal is close to being reached between the two clubs with talks at an 'advanced stage'.

It's reported Foyth will join Villarreal on a season-long loan deal, linking up with former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, but it's not yet decided whether the deal will include an option to buy.

The report claims that the Yellow Submarine initially failed in their attempts to land Foyth but Jose Mourinho has changed his mind in recent weeks, now open to a departure.

Foyth has been with Spurs since 2017 when he joined on an £8million deal from Estudiantes.

He has since made just 16 league appearances but he is still just 22 years of age.

Tottenham will have a decision to make on Foyth next summer with his contract set to expire in 2022.

Though, if indeed Villarreal's loan proposal does include an option to buy, they may make that decision ahead of the defender's move to Spain.

Villarreal have picked up four points from their first three La Liga games of the season but lost 4-0 to Barcelona last time out, conceding all of the goals in the first half.

Emery is understood to be keen to improve his back-line before the window shuts with limited options at centre-back, veteran Raul Albiol and Pau Torres currently the preferred starters.
