Former Arsenal and Tottenham man Emmanuel Adebayor apologises after 'Jackie Chan' red card

Emmanuel Adebayor has been making headlines for his new club, but for all the wrong reasons.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham striker made the move to Paraguay after leaving Kayserispor in Turkey at the end of 2019.

He joined Olimpia Asuncion at the beginning of February, where he teamed up with former Manchester City striker partner Roque Santa Cruz.

Upon signing, Olimpia club president Marco Trovato said: "He was attracted by the challenge of playing in Copa Libertadores, where he has never competed. He told us he is coming to make the team competitive."

Adebayor came on to play ten minutes of the club's 1-1 draw with Delfin last week, before making his full debut during the game against Defensa y Justicia on Thursday, partnering Santa Cruz up front.

Olimpia won the game 2-1 but not before Adebayor was sent off.

And it was not your normal sending off either - the former Arsenal and Tottenham man saw red for a kung-fu style kick to one of the Defensa players 18 minutes from time.

As the defender wait for a high ball, he goes to head it, but Adebayor come in with an outstrtched boot, catching the Defensa player in the head.

The striker was shown a straight red card and apologised for his actions afterwards.

He said on Twitter: "Tough game today! What a great team spirit, and what a win boys @elclubolimpia . Sad to leave the pitch early on a Jackie Chan challenge. It was never my intention to hurt my opponent, And I am glad he is okay."
