The Philadelphia Eagles could be preparing to land some more talented offensive line depth with the news that former Army star, Brett Toth, is seeking approval to sign with the NFC East favorites per Adam Schefter.
Toth is banking on a waiver put in place by President Donald Trump, that would allow military academy athletes to get clearance to join pro sports teams upon graduation, rather than fulfill an obligation for active duty. Air Force long snapper Austin Cutting became the first military graduate to sign with a team when he inked a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Toth is a second lieutenant in the Army, who graduated as a nuclear engineer in May 2018 and has actually already fulfilled his first year of active military service. He’s simply waiting for Army leadership to allow him to sign his contract with the Eagles.
Toth making the Eagles roster is a different story, but he comes with accolades, as he was invited to the Senior Bowl, the first-ever for a West Point grad. Toth hasn’t played competitively in over a year but started 20 games at right tackle for Army in his final two seasons at West Point.
After the Senior Bowl, Toth was invited to the 2018 NFL Combine, where he measured in at 6-foot-6, 291 pounds, with an 80 5/8-inch wingspan, 33 3/8-inch arms, and 10 1/4-inch hands.
