Former Argyle Street Bank of Scotland in heart of city centre to be turned into flats

Plans to convert a former city centre Bank of Scotland listed building in Glasgow's city centre into flats has been given the green light by Glasgow City Council.

The plans would transform the derelict building on Argyle Street into a 21-home development. This would include "partial demolition, external alterations and repairs to the building".

Located in one of the busiest areas of the city centre, the development will be neighboured by a Primark and TK Maxx.

Approval was granted on February 18 after the application was put forward by Wilton Argyle Ltd in August 2019, reading "the building was originally designed for use as an office and is described as an eight-storey building. The ground floor was formerly a Bank of Scotland. The building is not currently not in use."

The council has granted permission for the plans to go ahead subject to the conditions that "safeguard the character of the listed building and the character of the surrounding conservation area".
