Former Argos store in Colwyn Bay to become Covid job centre

A former Argos store is set to become a ‘overflow’ job centre focused on getting people back to work after the pandemic.

The Argos store in the Bay View Shopping Centre in Colwyn Bay closed last spring and has been empty since then.

But now Instant Managed Offices have applied to turn the unit into a new job centre.

It would be run by the Department of Work and Pensions to assist those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A planning statement said: “The proposed change of use will support the local economy through the provision of job support, largely aimed at those who have been affected by the Covid pandemic.”

It will be an appointment only facility with work coaches for people attending.

They said it would also help fill a vacant unit with a significant investment planned at the site.

The Department of Work and Pensions is investing in temporary job centres across the UK to deal with the increase in job losses due to the Covid pandemic.

They are recruiting 13,500 Work Coaches to help with this.

UK Government Minister for Employment, Mims Davies, said work coaches will be on hand to support those who may need to rethink their career options.
