A former Argentina rugby union player was shot dead in Paris overnight. Federico Aramburu, 42, died after an altercation at a bar in the French capital.
French outlet L'Equipe report the tragic incident occurred in the Mabillion district of Paris, when Aramburu and a friend became involved in an altercation with two other men at the bar. The two other men are reported to have then left the scene, only to return later on armed with a gun, which was used to fatally wound Aramburu.
It is reported that the two alleged perpetrators are currently on the run from police, as one of Aramburu's former clubs posted a message of condolence on social media on Saturday. USA Perpignan, where Aramburu played between 2006 and 2008, wrote: "Immense sadness at the announcement of the death of our former player Frederico Martin-Aramburu in tragic circumstances. USAP sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."
Meanwhile, Stade Francais wrote: "It is with great sadness that the Stade Français Paris learns of the death of Federico Martín Aramburú in tragic circumstances. All our thoughts go out to his family, his loved ones, his clubs and his selection."
Aramburu amassed a total of 22 caps for Argentina, and represented his country at the 2007 World Cup. He turned out for five different clubs during his senior career: Biarritz Olympique, Perpignan, US Dax, Glasgow Warriors and CASI. Aramburu was a French champion with Biarritz in 2005 and 2006.
