Former Angel Joe Saunders pitches Phoenix contemporary

Jan. 10--Professional baseball player Joe Saunders, who began his career with the Angels, has put his home in Phoenix on the market at $3.495 million.

The desert contemporary, with wide views of Camelback Mountain in the backdrop, is distinguished by its pitched roofline, rows of paneled glass and steel-beam accents.

Designed for entertaining, the open-space floor plan features a chef's kitchen with a wine cellar, a living room with a fireplace and a formal dining room, set off by pendant lighting and custom zebra-wood cabinetry.

A media/game room sports a wall of flat-screen televisions and a glass-top wet bar. Other spaces include a den/office and an exercise room. In all, there are six bedrooms and eight bathrooms in about 8,500 square feet.

Telescoping glass doors are off common rooms and the master bedroom opens to a resort-like setting complete with an entertainer's patio, an outdoor fireplace and a waterfall-fed pool. A one-bedroom casita nearby has a separate entrance.

The left-handed pitcher, who was traded by the Angels to the Diamondbacks midway through the 2010 season, purchased the home in 2011 for $2.315 million, records show. Robert Joffe of the Joffe Group, an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, is the listing agent.

Hat tip to Busted Coverage for spotting the listing.

Saunders, 33, split time between the Rangers and Orioles last season. An All-Star with the Angels in 2008, he is currently a free agent.
