Former Alloa and Albion Rovers star 'expected' Wasps exit after 'season of hell with injuries'

Alan Trouten hopes to put a nightmare season behind him and prove to a club he still has something to offer next term.

The 36-year-old from Cambuslang was released at the end of his contract after four years at Alloa – a club he wanted to end his career at.

Forward Trouten knows that at his age and the fact he only played nine games at the Wasps last season, there are going to be question marks.

But the former Queen’s Park, Clyde, Airdrie and Albion Rovers star says he’s working as hard as he can to be fit for the start of a new campaign.

On his Alloa departure, Trouten said: “I expected it. I’ve had a season of hell with injuries, only played nine games and one 90 minutes, and I understand the way football works.

“It’s never nice to hear, and I was absolutely gutted, but I understand the manager’s [Brian Rice’s] reasons, so there’s no ill-feeling towards anybody at the club, especially the manager.

“I would have happily ended my career there. “

Trouten has had to contend with a catalogue of injuries and says he fought a mental battle for most of last year.

He said: “The injuries I had were my full body – neck spasms, groin problems, hamstring, quad and calf problems, so it was a strange one. It was as if my body had shut down for the year!

“It was very frustrating and tough, not just physically, but mentally.

“I feel as if, with my ability, that I can still play at a decent level, and I want to prove to myself that my body can still do it. I will be working as hard as I can over the summer to get back playing.”
