Former Alliance Trust Savings chief bags new asset management role

Former Alliance Trust Savings chief executive Robert Burgess has joined the board of wealth manager Brooks Macdonald.

Burgess, a former boss of the old Lloyds TSB retail and business banking businesses in Scotland and senior executive at Scottish Widows, becomes a non-executive director.

From 2009 to 2012, he was CEO of Dundee-based ATS and a director of Alliance Trust PLC, which has since sold the savings business to Liontrust Asset Management.

The 54-year-old is also a non-executive director of OakNorth Bank and non-executive chairman of peer to peer lender Invest & Fund.

Brooks Macdonald chairman Alan Carruthers said: "I am delighted to welcome Robert to the board. His experience in financial services, including some highly innovative firms, will be extremely valuable to Brooks Macdonald as we drive forward our growth strategy."
