Former Aldi supermarket in North Wales set to become veterinary surgery with up to 40 jobs

A former Aldi supermarket could be set for a very different use under new proposals.

The German discounter relocated from the site on Wellington Road in the summer of 2019 and initially placed it up for sale for £1.5m as it opened its new store on the nearby Marina Quay retail park.

It failed to see and Aldi later cut the price to £750,000.

Now it looks like a deal has been completed with plans for the Animal Trust to take on part of the site with a long term aim of creating nearly 40 jobs at a not-for-profit veterinary practice.

They plan to create four units in the building and sub-let the other three to alternative occupiers.

A planning statement to Denbighshire council stated: "The practice will create 8 full time equivalent jobs (3 vets, 5 nurses and admin staff) on opening, with staffing levels expected to grow to 16 vets and 22 nurses and other members of staff after 8 years.

"The job opportunities will primarily be high value skilled/professional positions (i.e. vets and nurses) in addition to administrative and clerical positions.

"Additional jobs will be created by the three separate business units, which has the potential to create between 10 and 20 additional full time equivalent jobs.

"The proposal will, therefore, make a valid contribution towards the local economy and job creation."

The application will now be considered by planners at Denbighshire council.
