Former Albion Rovers Scottish Cup hero leaves Peterhead to return to Junior Football on loan

Hurlford United have signed Peterhead defender Mick Dunlop on loan until the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has played for nine senior clubs in a stellar career spanning two decades.

And he was part of the famed Albion Rovers team which faced Rangers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup almost six years ago.

Rovers drew 1-1 with the Light Blues at Ibrox before losing 2-0 in the replay.

Now Dunlop, who won the SPFL League Two title with Peterhead last season, will join 'Ford's bid for success in the Junior Cup and West of Scotland Cup.

A change in work commitments mean it is difficult for Dunlop to travel to the north-east for training and matches, paving the way for his move to the West Region Premiership.

A statement on the Peterhead club website read: “Mick has only been with us for 18 months but he picked up a league winners’ medal during that time.

“There has been a change to his work away from football and we would not have seen much of him between now and May. It is better that he plays at a club that he can combine his life outside of football with and he will do that at Hurlford.”
