Former AFL premiership player Brian Lake has been arrested in Japan following an "incident" in a bar.
Lake's manager Marty Pask confirmed his client had been detained by authorities after the incident in Osaka on Sunday morning AEST.
The former Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs player had been celebrating a win in the Asian AFL with his team, the Indonesian Volcanoes.
Lake posted an image on Instagram of him holding a trophy after the win.
"Not sure what's happening but we won today!" the post read.
Mr Pask, the managing director of i50 Management, said information about the incident was still being gathered.
"However, Brian is assisting the authorities with their inquiries," Mr Pask said in a statement.
"Given the international constraints involved and out of respect to local governance, we won't be commenting further at this stage.
"We do ask that the privacy of Brian's wife and children be respected during this stressful time."
Under Japanese law, people suspected of a crime can be detained for 23 days without charge.
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing consular assistance to a man detained in Japan.
Lake has reportedly been in Fiji recently, filming for a new season of Channel Ten's Australian Survivor.
Lake played more than 250 games with the Bulldogs and Hawks, where he won the three premierships between 2013 and 2015.
In 2013, he won the Norm Smith medal for the best player on the ground in the AFL grand final.
He retired from the Hawks at the end of the 2015 season.
In 2013, Lake apologised to Hawthorn, his family and fans after a drunken incident at the Portsea Polo.
