Reuben Foster was just minutes into his first practice with Washington when he went down with what turned out to be a serious knee injury. JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reported Foster has a torn ACL and possible damage to the arteries in his leg.
The injury will keep Foster out for the season according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The initial prognosis for Foster wasn’t good. He went down on the second play of Washington’s organized team activities which opened Monday. Foster was carted off the field in an air cast.
The 49ers released Foster following his arrest at the team hotel for an alleged domestic violence incident involving his former girlfriend in Tampa prior to last season’s matchup against the Buccaneers.
Washington picked up the 25-year-old off waivers. Foster went on the Commissioner’s Exempt list as the league investigated the incident. Charges in the Tampa case were dropped in January. His removal from the exempt list allowed him to be on the field for the start of OTAs.
San Francisco selected Foster with the 31st overall pick in the 2017 draft. Injuries limited him to 10 games in his rookie season. He wound up playing 16 games across his two seasons with the 49ers, with 101 tackles and two pass breakups.
