Former 49ers DL Dana Stubblefield convicted of rape

Former NFL defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield on Monday was found guilty of rape after a nine-month trial.

Stubblefield, 49, faces a maximum 15-years-to-life in prison after a jury in Santa Clara County found him guilty of luring a developmentally disabled woman into his home under the guise of a babysitting job offer.

The assault was initially reported to police in April of 2015. According to the Mercury News, the jury found Stubblefield guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force and false imprisonment. He was found not guilty of rape of a person incapable of giving consent. He was also found to have used a gun during the assault.

Stubblefield played in the NFL for 11 seasons, including seven with the 49ers, three in Washington and one in Oakland.

He’s being held without bail, and his sentencing is set for August 29 according to Robert Salonga of the Mercury News.
