July 09--Former NFL defensive tackle Ray McDonald has been charged with domestic violence and false imprisonment in connection with an incident with his ex-fiancee while she held their 2-month-old baby, prosecutors said Thursday.
McDonald is scheduled to be arraigned on those charges, as well as charges of child endangerment and violating a court order, later on Thursday, according to the Santa Clara County district attorney's office.
Prosecutors say McDonald assaulted the woman around 4 a.m. May 25 after breaking into her bedroom. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment later that day.
Two days later, McDonald was arrested again when he was found back at the home in violation of a restraining order.
Last year, McDonald was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and investigated in connection with a reported sexual assault. Charges were never filed in the domestic violence case. The Santa Clara County district attorney's office is still considering whether to file charges against McDonald in connection with the sexual assault case.
McDonald, who was a third-round draft pick for San Francisco in 2007, was released by the 49ers on Dec. 17, with General Manager Trent Baalke citing the player's "pattern of poor decision-making."
The Chicago Bears signed McDonald to a one-year contract on March 24 but dropped him after his May 25 arrest.
