There are plenty of reasons to hop on the ferry from Ibiza and visit the laid-back and seriously charming island of Formentera. With the opening this year of its only luxury hotel, what are you waiting for?
Five Flowers Hotel & Spa is a sexy and sophisticated ode to sixties flower power. Over-sized brightly colored sofas and bubble swing chairs hanging from the lobby ceiling welcome you into a fever dream of psychedelia. But this isn’t dress up, Five Flowers has captured the fun essence of the swinging sixties but has left the kitsch behind.
Inside Your Room
There are six different categories of room including those suitable for families, but to be honest, these rooms are simply made for romance. The option for a 2.2-meter round bed in the signature white and contrasting flower hues brings fantasy to life.
The enormous shower and side by side sinks and full wall murals make the rooms modern, unique and most unlike most hotels in the Balearics.
Expect smart technology on lighting and a spacious balcony terrace. By night a light show of changing colored panels illuminates the pool and creates a trendy vibe.
Relax At The Pool
Some terraces have their own hot tub but regardless everyone can head down to the central pool or the rooftop pool located in the Skybar.
Sun loungers are available with impossibly plush, super large towels but for real opulence stake your claim in one of the domed lounging pods. Then pull down the shade and take a nap.
There are 79 rooms and suites, yet it doesn’t feel busy and the incredibly attentive staff make you feel as though you are their only priority.
Dine At A Japanese- European Fusion Restaurant
It’s most unexpected to find a Japanese restaurant in such a quintessentially European beach locale. This isn’t just any Japanese restaurant either, this is Kokoy by Hideki Matsuhisa. The acclaimed Japanese chef, who was awarded a Michelin star for Koy Shunka in Barcelona, has brought some of the same magic to this fusion restaurant inside Five Flowers Hotel & Spa.
Dinner traditionally starts late in Spain and with all the courses on offer here, its going to be a late night! We started with amuse bouche of gazpacho with a tempura crunch. The edamame was perfectly seasoned with salt right here from Formentera and the green matcha noodles were refreshingly cool.
The lobster tataki and the scallops on the shell were standout delicious. Drunken strawberries and little pancakes rolled in black sesame seeds completed the gastronomic journey.
Kokoy isn’t the only place to eat at Five Flowers.
The terrace restaurant by the main swimming pool offers an amazingly diverse breakfast buffet, and a fantastic lunch and dinner menu. Plus, of course, cocktails to enjoy poolside.
Es Pujols
If you can bear to leave your luxurious hotel, you’ll find yourself in Es Pujols, the only tourism resort on the island. The beach here is really quite beautiful, with white sand and lots of amenities.
Walk the promenade and visit bars, restaurants and shops which provide everything you need, but still manage to maintain a calm and almost sleepy village feel.
Ideally placed close to the beach, restaurants and all that the beautiful island of Formentera has to offer, Five Flowers really is the pick of the bunch!
