Formby High fans go berserk as team wins national cup

Fans supporting an U15s team at the final of a national tournament were seen going berserk when the side went ahead.

Formby High School saw its under-15s team compete in the National Cup final, with videos of the fans celebrating the goal scored at the Hawthorns going viral. The video, shared on Twitter, shows the opening goal slotted home by Harrison Rimmer with the camera then cutting to the fans going ballistic in the stands.

Their opponents, Kingsdale Foundation School from London, equalised at West Bromwich Albion's stadium but the Merseyside team clinched victory with a stunning 35-yard strike from Zac Johnson. It was the fans that went viral however, with dozens showing up to spur on their team at the Midlands ground.

Posting a clip from the live stream of the match, @Owen_1906 posted on Twitter: " Formby High letting off at the Hawthornes hahahaha." The clip has now been viewed more than 120,000 times and has 3,400 likes on the social media platform.

Headteacher Mr Mackenzie stated “I am unbelievably proud of the team’s success. Every player who played in yesterday’s final was outstanding, as they have been throughout the season.

"Individually, they are exceptional footballers but what is more striking is their ability to play as a team, support one another and produce mesmerising football. My thanks and congratulations also go to the players in the squad who weren’t able to play yesterday and Mr Hunt, their passionate team manager.”

In the build-up to the match, the players received motivational messages from people such as Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, former Formby High School pupil and Preston defender Josh Earl, and Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny.
