A stretch of the Formby Bypass was closed to traffic this afternoon after a crash involving a number of vehicles.
Part of the bypass, heading towards Southport, between Altcar Road and Southport Road was blocked after a crash.
Liverpool ECHO reporter Ben Roberts-Haslam was at the scene at around 2.10pm and said traffic was being diverted off the road, onto the pavement, and back onto the bypass.
Police officers were pictured at the scene, and a white van and navy car appear to have sustained some damage.
Traffic and travel reporting site Inrix said the road was blocked northbound, with queuing traffic for much of the mid-afternoon.
Traffic towards Southport was affected, though the road has since cleared.
Part of the Formby Bypass southbound has been reduced to one lane, though this is due to ongoing roadworks.
Merseyside Police was approached for further comment.
