Forgotten Nottingham Forest summer signing scores in Under-23s victory

Summer signing Cafu pulled on a Nottingham Forest shirt for the first time, as he featured for the Under-23s against Charlton Athletic.

The midfielder made the move to the City Ground on international transfer deadline day earlier this month, penning a season-long loan deal from fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos.

He has yet to be involved for the first-team however, either under former head coach Sabri Lamouchi or new boss Chris Hughton.

But he started - and scored - for the Reds’ youth side as they beat the Addicks in a 4-3 thriller.

Full-back Gaetan Bong was also in the XI.

The 32-year-old’s sole senior appearance in the Garibaldi came last season - also against Charlton.

He was not handed a squad number when the club announced their official list, but Hughton has worked with him before, at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Will Swan continued his impressive form for the 23s, bagging a brace in an action-packed game, while Yassine En-Neyah was also on target.

Forest were 2-0 up with 12 minutes gone, and though Athletic brought it back to 2-2, the Reds edged in front again.

It was 3-3 on the half hour, with the visitors netting what proved to be the winner in the second half.

Forest: Wright, Spooner, Rama, Harbottle (c), Bong, Cafu, Barnes, Gibson-Hammond, Konate, En-Neyah, Swan. Subs: Statham, Sanders, Fernandes, Dekel-Daks, Andrew.
