Forgotten Nottingham Forest striker sends Steve Cooper shock transfer message

On-loan striker Nuno Da Costa would welcome being given another chance to prove himself at Nottingham Forest.

The 30-year-old says the change in manager at the City Ground could benefit him as Steve Cooper’s style of play fits in with his own.

Da Costa is due to spend the season with French club Caen, having been at Royal Excel Mouscron last term - with the Belgian outfit deciding not to take up the option of a permanent transfer in the summer.

He has made only 14 appearances for the Reds since joining from Strasbourg in January 2020, but says he would be open to returning to the club.

"I wouldn't mind,” he told France Bleu, in a translated interview. “I know that there was another change of coach (Steve Cooper) after my departure.

“We didn't have the opportunity to talk to each other but his philosophy tends more towards (what) I expect from my profile. Why not?

“Competition is something that does not scare me. I know that there are experienced forwards and inevitably I have - I think - the advantage of being a little younger than them."

Da Costa came to Forest when Sabri Lamouchi was still in charge, but has struggled to make an impact in the Garibaldi.

He is open-minded about his future, saying he also wouldn’t be against joining Caen full-time.

"Yes, why not, if all the ingredients are right,” he said. “Being lugged around from right to left is (not) fun for anyone.

“On the one hand, I like the city and things are going pretty well with the club. The president and the coach are people with whom I get along very well, so why not?

“It's a fairly structured club. Today, the working conditions at the club are optimal to bring Stade Malherbe back to where I think it should be.

“I like challenges.

“Strasbourg was a club where we knew that there would be difficulties for the maintenance. I accepted the challenge and it went pretty well, so I don't see why here it wouldn't go well, if it ever happened.”

Injury hampered his start to life at Caen, with the forward previously claiming the treatment he received for it at Forest “had not gone very well”.

He has now played six times for the French side, and bagged his second goal for the club against Guingamp at the weekend.

"The injuries unfortunately slowed down the adaptation a little, whether at the tactical level or in the installation within the team,” Da Costa said. “Today we are playing with a system where I find myself a little more.

“Goals, when you feel good and confident, come on their own. I used to have times when I wasn't scoring and when it came, it came suddenly.

“When you arrive injured and drag the wound etc... you are bound to be impatient.

“Hunger, as an attacker, if you don't have it anymore you have to stop playing, so I will always have it as a player.”
