Forgotten Nottingham Forest man's message for Reds fans after 'difficult' season

Defender Michael Hefele has thanked Nottingham Forest fans for their backing during what he calls a “difficult season”.

The centre-back has been something of a forgotten man at the City Ground this term, failing to make a single appearance in the Garibaldi.

Hefele joined the club two years ago, from Huddersfield Town, and featured 18 times in his first campaign at the club.

He was sidelined with an Achilles’ injury at the start of the 2019/20 term, but has found himself down the pecking order after his return.

It meant he was not involved on Wednesday night as the Reds saw their promotion dream collapse.

A 4-1 defeat at home to Stoke City meant they finished the campaign in seventh spot, missing out on the top six after needing only a point to see them through.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side had equalised through Tobias Figueiredo in the second half, only to fall apart in a 20-minute spell which left their play-off hopes in tatters.

Since the season restarted in June, games have been taking place behind closed doors.

And Hefele posted a message on Instagram for Forest fans.

He wrote: “Thank you to all Reds for the support during this difficult season. COYR #Heff44”
