Forgotten Nottingham Forest goalkeeper 'shakes hands' on move abroad

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is said to be on the verge of a move to Turkey.

The 33-year-old has not been part of the first-team set-up at the City Ground under Sabri Lamouchi and spent the second half of last season on loan at Omonia Nicosia, in Cyprus.

Turkish website Fanatik say he has now “shook hands” on a deal with Denizlispor and will sign a one-year contract with the club.

Pantilimon joined the Reds in January 2018, initially on loan, before signing permanently that summer.

He was first choice between the posts in the 2018/19 season and has made a total of 57 appearances in the Garibaldi, but fell out of favour when Lamouchi took charge last summer.

He has one year left on his contract with the club, though his time on Trentside now looks set to come to an end early.

Fanatik report Denizlispor have “made an agreement with the Romanian goalkeeper” and he “will come to the city and sign the official contract in a short time”.

Brice Samba will start the 2020/21 term as Forest’s number one, but who will provide back-up still remains uncertain.

Out-of-contract Jordan Smith has been with Lamouchi’s squad during pre-season, including featuring in practice matches.

The Reds head coach has made it clear he would like him to stay, but a new deal has as yet not been agreed.
