Forgotten Chelsea star delivers verdict on £50m Ben Chilwell transfer with Instagram message

Chelsea are close to sealing a deal for Ben Chilwell after holding extensive talks with Leicester City.

After a quiet January transfer window in which Frank Lampard was desperate to sign attacking reinforcements, the Blues have wasted no time in bolstering the head coach's squad ahead of the new season.

The cash has already been splashed on Hakim Ziyech as well as Timo Werner, and the west London outfit remain keen on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz.

However, barring an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, the Germany international is unlikely to become Chelsea's third sigining of what is shaping up to be a busy summer transfer window.

That honour is likely to be Chilwell's following a major breakthrough on Friday evening.

According to The Athletic, an agreement over a £50m deal is in place and the Telegraph claim the transfer could go through as early as next week.

With a deal appearing to be close, forgotten Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has taken to social media to deliver his verdict on the transfer.

On Instagram, the account @433 posted a picture of Chilwell in a Chelsea shirt with the caption: '@benchilwell has agreed personal terms with @chelseafc. The clubs will come to an agreement.'

And the aforementioned Blues stopper has seemingly given his approval to the deal, by liking the picture.

In signing Chilwell, the Blues are getting one of the best three left-backs in the world. That's according to Liverpool's Andy Robertson.

"I think Alphonso Davies, already world-class but he can only get better," Robertson told BT Sport. "Don’t expect me to be doing that [Davies' assist vs Barcelona] any time in a hurry. That was just incredible. It probably took five or six of them out of the game with one passage of play.

"Phenomenal player, somebody I enjoy watching and I think the whole world’s enjoying watching him at the minute and I'm not different.

"Ben Chilwell I love watching in the Premier League.

"Then I would say Jordi Alba, the more experienced one of the three I would say, maybe coming near the end of his career, but what a career he’s had.

"Him and Marcelo probably took left-backs to a whole new level."

Chilwell's arrival could be backed up with the imminent signing of Havertz - and also Thiago Silva - as soon as next week, according to Sky Sport in Italy.

A new goalkeeper is also on Chelsea's wishlist, with Lampard aware of the need to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga in between the sticks after losing faith in the Spain international for the final three games of the 2019/20 season.

Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak, Burnley's Nick Pope, and a surprise name in Rennes' Edouard Mendy are just some of the keepers being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
