Forgotten Arsenal man can play a key role as Christian Eriksen transfer move takes fresh twist

Inter Milan are said to have identified Arsenal exile Lucas Torreira as a transfer target this month.

According to Tuttosport, Inter see Torreira as the perfect signing to deputise Marcelo Brozovic in their midfield and they could be willing to send a player in the other direction.

Torreira is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, but with Diego Simeone's men riding high at the top of the La Liga table, the Uruguayan can barely get a game.

The 24-year-old has made just two league starts this season and that has lead to talks of him being recalled this month to join another club on loan.

Arsenal haven't taken such action just yet, but talks are ongoing and they might be tempted if they have another interested club lined up, and Inter Milan could provide that option if reports in Italy are to be believed.

And what's more, reports also claim Inter could send former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen the other way to sweeten the deal with the Dane currently on the transfer list having failed to impress hin his first year with the Serie A giants.

That could suit Arsenal as they search for a creative midfielder with time running out in the January transfer window.

But as far as Torreira is concerned, there could be other options with Valencia, Fiorentina and Lazio all said to be interested in taking over his loan deal this month.

Arsenal will likely want Torreira to get some guarantee of regular football ahead of any further loan move given the midfielder's lack of opportunity at Atletico so far this season.

Any interested club is likely to have to make some promises in that respect, as well as at least matching the current wage agreement the Gunners have with Atleti.

Though, the inclusion of a player like Eriksen could make things interesting, particularly if Arsenal head into the late stages of the window having still failed to land a midfielder as planned.
