There are plenty of well-preserved historical buildings in cities around the world, which often shape local identity and boost tourism. But what about the lesser-known, hidden or even deserted examples of built heritage which deserve special attention?

Does the practice of conservation always get it right? Do brilliant buildings slip through the cracks? Wherever you are in the world, share your photos and stories of abandoned, overlooked or forgotten architectural gems in your city with GuardianWitness and we’ll feature a selection on Guardian Cities.
