'Forget Digne' - Chelsea fans full of praise for youngster making his debut in FA Cup win

Chelsea fans were raving about young defender Lewis Hall in the opening stages of his debut against Chesterfield in the FA Cup third round.

The 17-year-old started on the left side of a back three, looking established against the National League outfit at Stamford Bridge.

The youngster became yet another of the famous Cobham academy to make the step up to first-team football for the Blues, with Mason Mount, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi already becoming regulars in the side as graduates.

Hall not only looked accomplished at the back, but managed to drive forward and grabbed an assist with a cross to Romelu Lukaku for the third goal.

The defender has helped Thomas Tuchel relieve some stress over the back line, with a number of players missing through a mixture of Covid and injuries.

Thiago Silva was left out through a positive test, whilst Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Ben Chilwell are sidelined with injuries.

Talking about the chance for youngsters and team selection, Tuchel told the Fifth Stand: "You need to deserve your place in the squad, nothing is a gift at this club. If you're ready to play, if you show us and your teammates you have the chance to get some minutes.

"We demand the very best of everybody. We should appreciate the opportunity to play that kind of match at Stamford Bridge. There is no travelling. It's a good opportunity to play some minutes."

Hall has done just that and has made his impact from the beginning.

Taking to social media, Chelsea fans were full of praise for the youngster.
