Forfar manager Jim Weir injured in head-on smash on motorway

Forfar Athletic's manager Jim Weir was rushed to hospital last night after being involved in a head-on crash.

Weir, 50, who played for Hearts and , and his first team coach were taken by ambulance to Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert following the collision on a motorway.

Both men suffered cuts and bruises as well as severe whiplash. The driver of the other car also escaped serious injury.

Weir and are now recovering well at home following the collision.

The incident occurred after they were leaving training at 's Ochilview ground.

The pair are hopeful of making it to the dugout for Forfar's game against Montrose at Station Park on Saturday, however they will take medical advice before a decision is made.

Weir has been manager of League One Forfar Athletic since October 2017 after he left Elgin City.

A statement from the club read: "Forfar Athletic officials are delighted to report that manager and first team coach Barry Sellars are now recovering well at home having been involved in a horrific head on motorway collision not long after leaving Ochilview following last night’s training session.

"Along with the driver of the other vehicle involved Jim, who was at the wheel of his company car, and Barry were rushed by ambulance from the scene to but were fit enough to be released during the night.

"Both Jim and Barry have suffered fairly severe whiplash injuries as well as more than a few cuts and bruises but when one sees the photographic evidence they are both lucky to not have sustained more serious injury.

"Knowing both, they will be keen to be in the dugout no doubt come afternoon, but they will also take the required medical advice we are sure before any firm decision is made.

"Thankfully the driver of the other vehicle also escaped serious injury.

"All ‘Loons’ supporters will we are sure be wishing Jim and Barry all the best following this harrowing experience and also a speedy recovery to full fitness."

Fellow League One sides Falkirk and Raith Rovers wished the pair a speedy recovery.

Raith tweeted: "Glad to hear that Jim and Barry are OK. Everyone at Raith Rovers wishes them both well and hope they both have a speedy recovery."

While Falkirk said: "Best wishes for a quick recovery to both from everyone at Falkirk FC."
