Forest 'target' Jonathan Kodjia expected in Doha to seal surprise Qatar move

Striker Jonathan Kodjia is expected to arrive in Doha on Friday to complete his move to Al-Gharafa.

The Qatari club confirmed on Thursday evening that the Nottingham Forest ‘target’ was expected in the capital to undergo a medical ahead of his move from Aston Villa.

Kodjia has fallen out of favour with Dean Smith at Villa Park, and was strongly linked with a move to Championship side Forest, desperate for attacking reinforcements this month.

"Ivorian International Jonathan Kodjia arrives in Doha tomorrow, God willing, to perform a medical examination, in preparation for signing a club," the club wrote in a translated tweet.

Ivorian Kodjia, however, has seemingly opted for a move to Qatar to link up with former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic, a manager incidentally wanted by the Reds previously.

As speculation grew about his imminent departure from the second city, boss Dean Smith confirmed that the frontman would be able to leave the club this month if a suitable offer was forthcoming, though at that stage, he did suggest there was nothing imminent.

“No. Everyone knows Jonathan's out of contract at the end of the season,” he said.

“At his age, he's allowed to talk to clubs at the moment.

“He hasn't trained with us this week and won't be involved on Saturday."
