Forest rivals facing new FFP crisis after being accused of breaking league rules for second time

Nottingham Forest’s Championship rivals Birmingham City have revealed they have been charged with another breach of Football League regulations relating to Financial Fair Play (FFP).

The Blues were docked nine points last season for breaking the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules.

Now they could be punished again if they are found guilty of not sticking to the EFL-imposed business plan which they agreed to adhere to.

The plan with the EFL was agreed to come into force last term, and required the Blues to disclose all financial dealings with the authorities, has remained in place since their points deduction which effectively ended any hopes of Garry Monk's side claiming a place in the play-offs, and their problems have continued.

Despite selling Forest target Che Adams to Southampton for £15m and Jota to city rivals Aston Villa for £4m, the club have still fallen foul of the rules, and they've seen striker Lukas Jutkiewicz linked with a move to the City Ground this month.

"The club confirms that it has been charged with a breach of EFL regulations in relation to a business plan imposed upon us in the 2018/19 season," read a Birmingham statement.

"The club denies the charge and we await the outcome of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

"We shall be making no further comment at this time."

The Blues are precariously close to the Championship’s drop zone, sitting just six points above third-bottom Wigan having lost five of their last six games, form which has seen pressure mount on Pep Clotet.

Sabri Lamouchi's Reds face the Blues at St Andrew's on February 1.
