'Forest rave' shut down after Scots cops swoop on large gathering as public told to stay away

Police descended on a forest in the Borders to shut down an 'ongoing party ' that kicked off overnight.

Footage shared publicly on social media shows revellers dancing in Forest of Ae, near Dumfries, around 12.40am on Sunday May 30.

A make shift stage can be seen in the background while blaring music can be heard in the short video clips.

In the wake of the mass gathering, police were forced to turn away Scots who planned on visiting the beauty spot later on Sunday.

Police were called to Forest of Ae in Dumfries and Galloway (Snapmaps)

Dumfries and Galloway Police Division released a a statement today warning people to stay away from the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Around 12.40am on Sunday, 30 May, police received a report of a large crowd gathering within the Forest of Ae near to Dumfries.

"Officers remain in attendance and are engaging with those present.

"Police Scotland’s approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and encourage compliance, but our officers will not hesitate to use our enforcement powers as a last resort.”

Chief Inspector Scott Young, from Dumfries Police Station, assured that officers 'will not hesitate to use enforcement powers' if necessary.

He said: “Police Scotland’s approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and encourage compliance, but our officers will not hesitate to use our enforcement powers as a last resort.

"I want to thank those members of the public who have complied with officers so far."
