Nottingham Forest fan threw pint glass at minibus carrying Leeds United supporters

A man who threw a pint glass at a minibus carrying Leeds United fans to the City Ground has been banned from the stadium for five years.

Richard Stanford, 31, of Eastwood Road, Kimberley ,was also ordered to pay out more than £400 as he was sentenced over the incident on February 8.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court as he was issued with his ban, fined £213 and told to pay £200 compensation.

Inspector Rob Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police , said: “Nottinghamshire Police has a zero-tolerance approach to illegal activity at football matches.

“Football is a sport that should be an enjoyable, safe environment for fans of both home and away sides and today’s sentence reinforces the positive stance that Nottinghamshire Police take against football related violence and disorder.

“We are committed to protecting the safety of fans at football matches and will investigate all reports of disorder made to us.”

The Reds came out of the match with a 2-0 victory over their promotion-chasing rivals, however, a number of incidents between both sets of fans were handled by police.

Forest’s season is currently on hold after the EFL postponed matches in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

They currently sit in fifth place in the Championship, with nine games left to play.
