Forensics probe scene after road taped off with 'smashed' Audi pictured within cordon

An Audi 'with smashed windows' has been cordoned off by police this evening with a main road in Salford closed.

Officers have descended on Bury New Road in the Broughton area after a serious incident. A section of the road has been taped off near the junction with New Hall Road.

Part of New Hall Road has also been cordoned off. Pictures show a silver Audi behind the cordon.

The car appears to have smashed windows. Glass can be seen strewn across the road next to the car.

Several police officers are stationed at the scene, with police guarding the ends of each cordon tonight. Forensic officers have also been spotted at the scene.

The crime scene investigators appear to have placed evidence markers on stretches of the road and pavement within the cordon. One officer was also spotted using a torch as investigations were carried out.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for details.
