Forensics officers investigating as suspected murder scene in Shildon remains sealed

Investigations are continuing at the scene of an alleged murder in County Durham.

Police and forensics remain in Shildon on Wednesday following the death of a man on Tuesday evening.

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being quizzed by detectives.

Emergency services were called to an address on Thornhill Gardens in Shildon at around 5pm on Tuesday.

The North East Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulance crews, two Hazardous Area Response Teams and an officer to the scene.

The Great North Air Ambulance also attended.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that a man had died as a result of the disturbance.

Multiple police vehicles remain in the area and a cordon is in place.

Forensic teams can also be seen carrying out searches at the address.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Lawrence called on anyone with information to the incident to come forward.

She said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this time.

"I would like to reassure the local community that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.

"An investigation is now underway and I would encourage anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident reference number 322 of March 30.
