Forensics officers investigate as man's body is found on Walbottle waggonway

Forensics officers have been investigating the death of a man whose body was found on a waggonway in Newcastle.

The man was discovered on the Walbottle path off the North Walbottle Road just after 8am on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances around the man's death.

The waggonway has been cordoned off with a police officer guarding the entrance onto the path.

A forensics team wearing full body suits have been examining the scene and taking away items in evidence bags.

Police cars and force vehicles were lined up on North Walbottle Road as the path remained taped off.

Anyone who has any information on the man's death is asked to contact police.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 8am police received a report of concern for a man who had been found unresponsive near North Walbottle Road in the Walbottle area.

"Emergency services attended and the body of a man was found. Inquiries into the circumstances around his death are ongoing.

"Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 191 20/07/20."
