Forensic examination to begin on James Patterson's car after removal from River Bann

A forensic examination will now take place on James Patterson's car as it has been removed from the River Bann.

This week the PSNI have been carrying out a recovery operation on New Ferry Road, Bellaghy, after a car was discovered that is believed to be connected to the long-term missing man.

James Patterson went missing in October 1991, after he was last seen at the Mid-Ulster Hospital in Maraghfelt.

He had been driving a green Ford Orion. This vehicle is believed to have been found in the River Bann on Saturday, July 18, by Community Search and Rescue volunteers.

The car has now finally been removed from the water, and will be taken away for forensic examination.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A vehicle discovered in the River Bann by local Community Search and Rescue on Saturday 18th July has been recovered and will now be subject to forensic examination."
